Making your friend feel welcome

January 30th, 2009

KP had one of his school buddies, Big C, over for a play date yesterday.

When we showed up for school this morning, Big C’s mom just had to share a little story that happened at their house last night.

When Big C was being put to bed, he told his dad that he better go lock the doors and make sure they were locked.

When his dad asked why, he said, “I was playing with one of KP’s big brother’s toys.   He told me that I better not because he will hunt me down.  So can you make sure the doors are locked.”

Yesterday’s words

January 29th, 2009

My mom was over to watch KP while I went to school for a meeting.  As I was walking out the door this is what was said:

Mom:  Honey, you look tired.

Me:  I don’t have any makeup on.

Mom:  You are going to a meeting with no makeup on?

Me:  Yes, I am going to a meeting with no makeup on AND guess what?  I didn’t even shower.  I’m a volunteer, they’ll take anybody.

Racing 09

January 28th, 2009

Yesterday I decided to sit down and plan my racing schedule for this season.  I made the decision to do them all together AND try to print out copies of my registration confirmations due to last years snafu.

Funny enough, yesterday I was having printer problems and could not get the Life Time Fitness confirmation to print and then I closed the window and then I never got an email saying I had registered.

So, I emailed them.  Spencer at Life Time says my name is on the list.  When asked for a confirmation number, he said he could not get into the system but could send me a copy of my information and did.   Believe you me when I say that if I go to “packet pick up” in July and my name is not on that list, I will personally find Spencer and and and and…it won’t be pretty.

ANYWAY, here is what the 2009 racing schedule looks like:

  1. Lake Minnetonka Half Marathon, May 3rd
  2. Minneapolis Marathon, May 31st
  3. Lake Minnetonka Triathlon (sprint), June 20th
  4. Freedom Run (2 or 5 miles) Sheboygan WI, July 4 *
  5. Life Time Fitness Triathlon (olympic), July 11th
  6. Chisago Lakes Triathlon (half iron), July 26th

*This is iffy, I’m going to try to get buy in from some of the cousins to do it with me and the rest of the extended family seeing it’s the annual family reunion.  We’ll see how that goes.

Pee yourself funny

January 27th, 2009

About a week or so ago Mrs. Bickerson posted a video up on Facebook.  I have been talking aout this clip for the past week and my impression, I am sure, can not do it justice.

So, for everyone who has heard about Hope and Hank’s little ditty, here it is.

Thanks Mrs. B.

Year of the Ox

January 26th, 2009

Happy Chinese New Year to ya all.  We have now gone from the rat to the ox.  I happen to be a dog, so this year is looking good for me.  Find out what is in store for you.

Dad is GREAT gives us chocolate cake

January 23rd, 2009

This morning started differently than most.  I was going to leave the house before most of the clan today.  I needed to get to my dad’s chemo appointment and Adam was going to be the one who walked PJ to the bus stop and brought KP to school.

But before any of that happened, I was up and dressed, had kid’s clothes laid out, breakfast made, kids eating at the table, the dog fed and out, backpacks packed and while I was eking out my last few minutes at home by emptying the dishwasher, I heard the following at the kitchen table:

CT:  Dad is doing everything today.

KP:  I know, he’s even bringing me to school.

PJ:  AND walking me to the bus stop.  He is doing EVERYTHING!!!!!

I stop in my tracks with wet dish in hand and look over at the kitchen computer.  There he is,  sitting just two feet away from the kids in his underwear and a sweater, Twittering.

Yes, HE is doing everything!

I’m not crazy

January 22nd, 2009

Watching clips like this make me feel sane, like I’m not at the tip of crazy.

They are…JUDGEMENT 09 (dun, duuuunnnnn)!

Yes we can!

January 20th, 2009

I have not been watching TV all day, but I did get to see our 44th President get sworn in and then I sat with tear filled eyes listening to his speech.

It made me proud to live in this great country of ours.

But as our priest said this past Sunday, Barack is only one man,  it is going to take all of us to make change…so get to work!

Lady Birds Fly

January 16th, 2009

This afternoon I am shoving off with my girlfriends for our annual weekend get-a-way up north.

Seriously, I can’t wait.

Nothing to do but do nothing.

Oh sweet lord, I’m giddy.

SUCK IT old man winter

January 15th, 2009

I think I have done it.  I think I have done the dumbest thing to date since college.

Our sweet little state has not seen temperatures this cold in five years.  This morning at 5:00 am the temperature was -20 and the windchill was -40.

Some of our running group decided the night before to run, even though our normal cut off is -20 windchill.  I mean really, at what point does it even matter as long as you are dressed right?

So this morning we found out.  And we found out it was not too bad.  In fact, with the exception of the darkness, silence (except the wind) and overwhelming feeling of desolation (it would have been a great back drop for the movie The Road) it was great.

What do you wear in -40 windchill?

Here is what I decided on:

  • winter hat
  • 2 face masks
  • Vaseline on my exposed eye skin
  • tops: 1 thermal, 1 smart wool tank, 1 fleece jacket, 1 wind resistant jacket and Adam’s shell just in case
  • bottoms:  wind shorts, tights and my sub zero pants
  • 2 pairs of smart wool socks
  • gloves: 1 pair thin wool and 1 pair heavy mittens
  • running shoes

Take that winter.
