Runs in her blood

December 10th, 2009

Adam is an entrepreneur.  It is something that runs deep down into his core and won’t let go of him.  In fact, he tells this story of when he was young and decided to smash rocks, put them back together and then walk around the neighborhood and sell them as Rock Puzzles.  He moved onto shoe shinning, lawn mowing and oh so many other things from there.

So yesterday, when PJ came off the bus and told us she and her friend Claire had written some books on the bus and wanted to sell them, we just kind of nodded our heads.

I thought that was the end.

Nope.  She decided she needed to type it up and print it out.  Then she made 40 copies.  Then she made a container to hold her money.  Then she practiced what she was going to say when she knocked on the door to the neighbor’s homes.

And when she got off the bus today, she grabbed her friend Una and they canvased the neighborhood selling the story for 25 cents.

They ended the night $7.42 richer then they had started.

Neighbors…do you understand what you are creating?  Do you?

Look at her dad.

Little fingers

November 11th, 2009

We just inherited a piano from our neighbor.  It was his as a child, the bench is even filled with all his old music books.  After getting it tuned and finding the right wall to put it next to, now come lessons and learning how to play.

PJ is very excited.  She has been asking for lessons for a year.  Last year for Christmas we even got her a key board to start playing around on.

Since the piano has been in the house, every night before bed, PJ says, “Can I go downstairs quick?  I’m going to say goodnight to The Old Chum.”

And then she walks downstairs and says goodnight to the piano.

Homework

October 30th, 2009

Any guesses on what PJ is doing on that sheet of paper?

Multiplication tables (1-9)!  It was two pages long when it was all said and done.

Practice makes perfect.

PJ’s homework

September 30th, 2009

This came home from school in PJ’s folder.

Only in Chinese school do you get a star with a frown in it when you get ONE wrong.

She is just not living up to their standards.

Off to school

September 1st, 2009

This was yesterday.

CT had just rolled out of bed and wasn’t ready yet.

PJ is set and ready to roll.  In fact, she ran onto the bus so fast that I had to go on after her to kiss her goodbye.

KP was all ready but had to wait another day for school to begin, but got to visit for an hour and hang out with his new class mates.

All in all, the day went pretty smoothly.

And today…KP headed off to his first day of ALL DAY Chinese Immersion Kindergarten (didn’t even want to stop for a photo-can you tell by the blur?).

With his big brother giving him ample instructions before leaving the door, his big sister taking his hand as they stepped onto the bus together and his wide anxious eyes waiting for all the new adventures to begin, I am sure this day too will be great.

Unless he goes insane because he has no idea what the teacher is talking about.

I’ll let you know if that happens.

Trouble

August 28th, 2009

Not only do these two get to hang out while their older brothers play football, they get to be in class together this year.  Watch out Ting Laoshi.

Sneeking up

I love this photo of PJ.

It just makes me giggle.

Heard while paying attention

July 1st, 2009

PJ:  Owww, you just hit me in the nuts.

CT:  PJ…you don’t have nuts, you have a berry.

Summer is for the dogs

June 9th, 2009

Seriously…what else do you do during the summer then get dressed up with your cousin, put a leash on your little brother and then walk him like a dog.

Last Day of School

June 5th, 2009

Ohhh they can’t wait for this day to be done.  Do you remember the excitement?

This one can’t wait for the end of the year paper fight on the bus.

This one is struggling with what to do for the end of the year talent show: singing, dancing, jokes.  Who is to say.  But she was dressed and ready to go by 6:45 sharp.

This one is ready for anything, as always.

Let summer officially begin…I’m thinking Gin and tonics.
