First inkling of things to come

January 8th, 2008

At some point in time your kid’s friends have more influence over your kid than you do as a parent.  I am officially here to document that today is the day for CT.

We are not a boxer wearing family.  We’ve got nothing against boxers.  We just choose briefs, even the little ones (not little in size or width in the back end, little as in for the little kids, for those of you who need clarification).

About a month ago, CT came home from school and asked if the next time I bought him underwear if it could be boxers.  I nodded a dismissing yes and then went on with the line of questioning that follows when one said child or household for that matter doesn’t even own or wear boxers.  How, who, where, are you really going to disturb the force Luke?  BUT YOUR FATHER

His best friend…his best friend wears boxers, that is the answer.  And now he wants to too.

And today, donning his first pair of Hanna Andersson boxer briefs, he looked at me with a smile on his face as he strode across the kitchen floor and said, “Mom, I feel cool today!”

Where the hell’s your Mama?

I called Jen this afternoon just to chat and her 5 year old son answered the phone, here is how the conversation went:

Me: Hi Mattymagoo, is your mom there?

Matty:  She is, but but but I can’t get her.  I’m in a time out.

Me:  Can you get your sister to bring the phone to her?

Matty:  Sure…LAAUUUURRRREEEENNNNNN, here take this.

Me:  Hi Lauren.

Laruen:  Hi.

Me:  Can you get your mommy for me?

Lauren:  I can’t, I’m on the potty going poop.

Me:  Ok Lauren, just start yelling that you need a wipe, I bet that will get her.

Lauren:  Ok…MOM I NEED A WIPE, MOM I’M POOPING AND MOOOOOOOMMMMM  I NEED A WIPE.

Me:  (now laughing uncontrollably)  Lauren, just keep yelling.

Running at 5:30 am in the winter, in Minnesota, is a little crazy.

But doesn’t it look at least a little fun?

O.K. I agree, Jen (far left) does not look like she is having ANY fun at all.  We all know she’s  just in if for the coffee.

A little something

November 27th, 2007

My dear friend Ellen surprised me with a really fun gift the other day when I was at her house.  She had business cards printed up for me with all my contact information and my three kid’s names.

Needless to say, I love them.  What a perfect way to have your information easily accessible for play dates, coffees or any other reason the CEO of the household may need to get her contact information to someone.

Check out the VistaPrint link.  There are so many choices and you can customize away.  Also, your first 250 are free.

Happy circle

November 7th, 2007

Have you ever had a weekend that was filled with good new and BIG things?  I certainly hadn’t, until last weekend when some of my nearest and dearest friends had great things happen to them.

I’ll kick off the great news with one of my oldest friends, Anne MarieShe and her lovely husband enjoyed the birth of their first born son; we’ll call him HP at c-lunch.  She called me from the hospital a few hours after having him to announce the good news and give me the stats.  As she spoke and recounted her experience you could hear everything pour out of her, the emotion, the love, the anxiety, the shear excitement and the anticipation that a new life brings.  She sounded drunk with happiness.  And I think she put it best when describing this new little wonder lying on her chest…”He is just perfect.”

Congratulations, we can’t wait to meet him.

Secondly, our good friends Nick and Lynn are getting hitched!  After six years of dating, Nick like a perfect gentleman, got down on his knee and asked Lynn for her hand in marriage.

We are so very happy for both of you!

And finally…Nathan.  Our friend Nathan turned 35 this weekend!  Not only did we get to hang out with him at his surprise party but then we went out and listened to his band Kubla Kahn and party like we were 23.

To all of you, cheers, love and all the happiness life has to offer.

Big brother’s friends

October 24th, 2007

CT passed his friend Sam’s picture around the kitchen table yesterday during snack.  And this is what was said:

PJ:  (looking at the photo) I have a crush on him.

Me:  What does that mean?

PJ:  It means I love him.

Me:  Well, Sam is a really nice boy.

PJ:  Oh no…I just like how he looks.

Your friend’s kids

October 19th, 2007

Today Jen and I took our six kids to the pool for a swim.

After an hour of fun, it was time to get everyone showered and dressed.  We decided to divide and conquer.

I took the boys into the Family Changing Area, which is a very small bathroom with one shower, I figured they couldn’t go anywhere if I locked them in.

Jen took the two girls into the woman’s locker room.  You know, the girls deserve a little bit nicer conditions.  And under those nicer conditions the following is Jen’s account of a delightful conversation between her and PJ:

PJ:  (Staring at Jen, while Jen is naked)  I’m staring at your boobs because they are bigger than my moms.

Jen:  Oohhhhh, that’s ok, I don’t mind.  Just be sure to tell her that, ok?

PJ:  Well…it’s because you’re fatter than she is.

If you need a laugh and have not checked out Mrs. Bickerson’s site in a while, she is on a roll.

Check her out.

Baby bump

August 24th, 2007

One of my oldest and dearest friends made it into town this weekend.  She lives out east with her hubby and soon to be baby boy.

Since her trip “in” is so brief, she may not be able to make the rounds to see everyone, so I wanted to capture her growing beauty (yes I made her lay on the couch like that) and post her right here for all of her friends to see.

Keep up the great work…you look stunning!

Good Luck!

To my oh so mighty friends who are doing amazing things this weekend…

Courtney may you find speed and strength on the 70.3 mile course in California.  We’ll be watching from this end.

And to The Bickersons who never stop amazing me.

Iowa, Banana Cream pie, Bloody Marys and The Bickersons.  The Ragbrai wouldn’t be the same if you two didn’t show up for it.  Enjoy your week away and I hope you find libraries along the way to share your wild adventures with us.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
