Funny little day
I started today with an email from Whitney that said, “Hope just informed me that PJ is allergic to the lead they have in the pencils at school. She demonstrated how PJ has to plug her nose while she does her school work.”
After I dropped KP off at school I had an over the phone interview for our Life Insurance. After I answered their numerous questions that put me in the “Home Maker” category, I proceeded to tell her about the $7 a week I make teaching swimming lessons and then she asked, “So…what is your net worth.” My response, a wicked laugh that shot straight through the phone and right to her inner ear then not so gently pierced her brain.
The final funny hit before lunch, at a little boutique. I am looking for a cocktail dress and found one that was not exactly what I was looking for, but would certainly do the job and was reasonably priced to boot. The only issue…I needed latex breast enhancements to go with it and they just so happen to cost more than the entire dress.
Oh, life is funny.

Whit headed off to have lunch with girls yesterday. Here’s a glimps of it.
And today, Lucy and I went over for a little doggy playdate. I can’t believe I did not take any pictures. Needless to say, Lucy has been sound asleep for the past two hours.
Thanks Whit!

PJ got off the bus yesterday and said, “I’ve been bad.” Then turned around to show me the white note that was taped to her backpack.
It said:
PJ punched a student in the stomach. She was mad that she got a paper cut. Please sign this form and return to teacher.
Fucking great.

Do you see the gloves? Under the gloves is blood. The girl in the blue is the Vet’s assistant. They almost needed three people to take him down.
This is all over a SHOT. I wish I had audio. KP was curled into a ball in my lap.
Of course, when you adopt a dog, all your other pets need to be up to snuff on their shots. And, gulp, the cats had not seen the vet since 2000 (the year CT was born). So here we go. Off to the vet to get the cats ready for the dog.
And after I told them Arthur would be the easier of the two cats to deal with, the woman in the blue, as I am taking the photo, was saying “you did it, you did, you won, you won the award for the worst cat I have ever given a shot to.”
I told her, that’s nothing, you should see my daughter.

PJ’s 10th birthday came 3 1/2 years early.
May I introduce to you, the newest member of our pack….Lucy the standard poodle (just in case you were wondering).

Typically, during Halloween and after, I lay down the law on candy consumption. They can have so many pieces Halloween eve and then I dole the rest of it out, one by one, until around Easter.
This year we had a free for all. Friday through Sunday they got to eat candy whenever and how much they wanted. No questions asked.
What was funny to me was that they actually only ate what they could and then put it aside. There were no maddening questions posed every two minutes about when the next time would be that they could possibly get their chocolate smudged fists on some more candy, they just took it.
And today, it’s gone. It was shipped off to PJ’s school for their Fall Festival.
No questions asked, they know it is gone but ohhhhhh what a sweet few days it was.

Adam thought it would be fun to take a trip to the Humane Society yesterday. So the entire family packed into the van and headed off.
The ground rules were laid, WE WILL NOT BE TAKING A DOG HOME WITH US! Everyone agreed and we headed in.
There were lots of dogs there yesterday and lots of people looking at the dogs. Big dogs, small dogs, black dogs, white dogs and there was one dog in particular that barked and jumped at CT whenever he walked by, that was a little disturbing for him and he did not want to take that one home.
Of course, PJ fell in love, with Hawk. Hawk is a 7 year old dog with barely any teeth left. He is so ugly cute you did not want to leave him there. He even would start to cry whenever PJ tried to to walk away. So she sat on the floor the entire time, right by his side, petting him and talking to him and letting him know there is love in this world for him.
We had him taken out of his main stall and played with him for a little bit. The drama was mounting, all three kids wanted him, they already loved him and saw him playing in the house with them. He knew how to sit and roll over and get belly rubs by six little hands.
But when you stood back and saw them together, Hawk wasn’t all there. He didn’t love my kids like he needed to. The kids didn’t see it, the emotions ran too high.
So we walked away. PJ being held by Adam, sobbing.
My guess is PJ is not going to need to wait until she’s 10 to get a dog. We just need to find the right one.

As I was folding laundry this morning KP said, “How does dad have BIG toots and holes in his underwear?”
