Baby bump
One of my oldest and dearest friends made it into town this weekend. She lives out east with her hubby and soon to be baby boy.
Since her trip “in” is so brief, she may not be able to make the rounds to see everyone, so I wanted to capture her growing beauty (yes I made her lay on the couch like that) and post her right here for all of her friends to see.
Keep up the great work…you look stunning!

Do you remember buying new school supplies every year?
I loved it. My mom would take us out on that special day, School Supplies Buying Day, and she always made it seem so special. Just the thought of getting fresh clean notebooks, really sharp pencils and brand new markers made me giddy.
My favorite school item of all time was the almighty Trapper Keeper (Old School obviously).
Do you have a favorite that you remember fondly?

I confess I pretty much have not cleaned my house this entire summer. There’s no time with all the summer fun we’ve been having. I mean, who can clean when you can go to the pool or the park or eat popsicles outside on a 90 degree day? There is
Ok, don’t get me wrong, I’ve picked up and spot cleaned but not anything like a complete house cleaning. I don’t even mean the OCD kind of clean, I just mean the normal person kinda clean.
The house has not even looked that bad this past three months but what has put and end to my fun induced cleaning hiatus is…my kitchen chairs stopped moving out from under the table. They are plum stuck, and in what, I have no idea.
I guess it’s time.

Over the last two days KP has gotten older. He now has fear.
It started when he barrowed Barn Yard from the neighbors. The babysitter had to turn it off because he was so scared. He has NEVER turned away from anything having to do with a movie or any type of TV watching, ever. This is a kid who has seen the Star Wars Trilogy over and over again (I’m so proud to say). And suddenly, fear is seeping into his world.
Today as we were driving in the car he asked about Nemo (almost every conversation he has is in relationship to a movie) and how Nemo can talk in the water but not out of the water.
I first explained that Nemo is just a character in a movie and that fish don’t really talk. Then we talked about fish living in water and how they can’t live on land like we do because they don’t breathe air.
Then he asked about the fish at the cabin and the fish he caught. I told him that they don’t talk either and they need to stay in their home in the water or they won’t live.
He sat quietly for a moment while the synapses fired. Then he starts yelling, “I not fish at cabin again and kill those fishes. I not fish no more!“
I love it when they get this far.

Wow…you’re 40, I can’t believe it. Enjoy every second of it.
Cheers to you.

We were up at a friend’s cabin this past weekend and ooohhhh the fun that was had with nine kids, six adults and too many fish to count.
KP had to sit and wait on the boat for his turn to fish. He waited until seven of the nine went before him (turns went by age, oldest first).
And what did he do you ask? He pulled out the largest catch of the day, on his first try.

KP: Mama, boy’s have penises girls have butts.
Me: Boy’s have penises and girls have vaginas.
KP: NO, PJ has a penis and a butt.
Me: Nope, PJ has a vagina, she is a girl. But you are right about the butt.
KP: NOOOOOOO SHE NOT…SHE HAVE PENIS!
I simply stop talking. There is no reason to go on. I DO NOT need to win this one.

So here’s the deal. I have had it. We have hit the crescendo of summer fun. The laze-a-fare of relaxing and summer time “cool” has hit the skids.
I’m done and so are they. The fighting and screaming and hitting (yes hitting) seems to be more main stay than not. I
And now…it is over. We have started the “It Takes Two” policy at our house. I know, you are wondering, what the hell does that mean?
Well, here is how it works: If there is hitting, screaming or fighting between two (or three in our case), everyone involved goes into a time-out and then they come out and talk to each other…apologize for their wrong doing and work it the FUCK OUT. There is no coming back until this is done.
This approach has been successful for the past two days. YES, two days, which is good. The deal is this, these kids are smart and they know how to work the system. The really hard part of being a parent, is that they will change and morph and get smarter and understand what you are trying to do.
Think on my friends. We are smarter…at least for now.

This is PJ riding her bike from our house to the near-by lake (about 1 1/2 miles each way). She learned to ride her bike with no training wheels a day ago. She just decided it was time. And now…there’s no stopping her.

I was reading through my favorites list this morning when Andrea posed a question on her blog: Why do you blog?
I’ve never written about why I blog, which is funny in a way. As I sit here and think about that question what comes to mind is simple…I blog to quell the crazy within me and to simply remember.
At this point in my life, with three small children, life is funny, hard, joyous, and a constant struggle to keep all the plates in the air spinning at the same time.
This blog let’s me look back, assess and find humor in sometimes some not so funny situations and then let’s me share them. I know I’m not the only woman who feels crazed by daily living.
And those precious moments…those times that you never want to have end and you never want to forget, I have those too. Saved up to read over and over again.
Tell me, why do you blog?
