Do I dare?

December 24th, 2006

I have one oven, like many people do. That said, on BIG holidays when I am making a BIG meal I like to try to round it out by having different methods of preparations so everything doesn’t end up in the oven at the same time.

This Christmas I am making a meal I have made before. It is delicious and one that has now started to stick out in my mind as our traditional Christmas dinner.

The one thing I am getting hung up on is timing. We will be out of the house early in the morning and not come back until late in the afternoon, then my family will come over to celebrate in the evening. That means it all needs to be done and ready to go before we leave in the morning. So I am thinking of revising the scalloped potatoes and goat cheese recipe into a crock pot recipe instead of an oven recipe.

Why is this such rogue thinking you ask? Well, the crock pot happens to be the tool that I fail at. I know, who can’t make crock pot food? ME! Maybe I’m not using enough hot dogs or packaged onion soup or cream of mushroom. Almost anything I have tried to make gets dry or just tastes like I have thrown seven items in the pot haphazardly.

But this Christmas meal I may risk it all for the sake of time and space. How bad can it be?
