Last Game
This kid, the kid with the ball, he loves football.
I get the bad mom of the year award by forgetting to register him on time. In fact, thank god for my seeing the fact that Whit was at the high school stadium with her kid on FB or I would have never realized my mistake.
CT eventually got signed up. He was placed on a team where he knew no one. All the kids were from different schools.
What I love about this kid is, it didn’t matter one bit to him. He went straight in to the heart of the beast and never looked back.

My youngest child just lost his front tooth.
This is the first tug of “OMG there are no more children after him” I have ever felt.
That doesn’t mean I want anymore after him, I’m just surprised I’m feeling anything about his missing tooth at all.

PJ came home yesterday with this note in her backpack.
She pulled it out, read it and was going to toss it.
I asked what it was and who it was from.
She said, “We have mail boxes this year. LuLu (her teacher) wrote it to me. It’s says: PJ, today you did great in math. Never give up! LuLu”
Could it possibly get better then that?

I’m not exactly sure what happened to my blogging besides getting side tracked by a 70.3 mile World Championship race, the kids going to back to school and work. But, here we are.
School is rolling smoothly enough. CT’s Football season is in full swing and to be honest, actually all most over. PJ’s soccer season is almost over and tryouts for next season have already begun.
And KP…not being the kid who wants to join a team sport, comes to all his siblings games and finds his own fun.
Last night he ran around and found treasures under the bleachers. He came home with the following: a blue and pink 2 foot wire, a blush brush, 4 bolts, 6 nuts, 2 washers, a nickel, a piece of a ring, a fake pearl and some random pieces of metal which he claims can make a belt buckle out of.
I know that some 15 year old girl is really pissed she lost that blush brush but it has found a good home, KP is now using it to find fossils.

Summer 2011: Day 76
See, if you wait until the weeds get as big as your kid….they are much easier to pull!

Late night at my brother and sister-in-laws cabin…I was told to “commit”!
After dusting the kids off from the rodeo and putting them to bed, the adults hung out by the fire. There was lighting many miles to the north and a couple lightning bugs lighting up the lake for us.
As we sipped margaritas by the camp fire with our post rodeo Bud Light buzz on, my brother determined it was time.
Shan, “I think it’s time to commit!” he said and looks at me. “Sis, you ready to commit?!!!”
He walks into the dark and then emerges again with a bottle of I DON’T KNOW WHAT THE HELL IT IS. Then they kept telling me whatever the hell was in that bottle was fortified, which wasn’t making me feel any better because I am sure that didn’t mean it was packed full of vitamins.
He cracks it open, chucks the cap into the fire and announces it must be finished by passing it back and forth swigging from the bottle like steal away hobos on a train car.
Ohhhh yeah we did! And honestly, didn’t really have a problem doing it, but then he thought it would be a good idea to open another.

This week, CT and I have been kick’n it solo. The other two little monkeys are off at Chinese camp trying to remember how to move their mouths in such a fashion as to make those amazing sounds of language come out right.
Yesterday CT and I spent most of the day together: we had lunch, we ran errands, we did a little shopping, we cruised around town.
It’s a rare moment that I have only one child with me. It’s a rare moment that I am not trying to do twelve things at once.
I realized (yet again) yesterday how fast I’m spinning and how fast my kids are growing up.
I have always known that CT is a great kid, but yesterday, I realized just how much more wonderful he has become.
He is funny and smart and super witty. He is lovely and kind and generous.
As the day drew to a close, I squeezed him tight and thanked him for the day we had together…what a gift.
